Whilst the Labour Government seem to prefer blaming wildlife for any delays in planning, rather than the real culprit, which is the underfunding of local authority planning departments, ecology should not be perceived as a problem; true, it can sometimes present challenges. Still, if the ecological and arboricultural surveys are conducted early in the planning process, rather than shoehorned in at the last moment, it is usually possible to avoid or mitigate potential issues.
Similarly, BNG is perceived as a problem and on most sites, it certainly is. The larger the site, the greater the potential to provide BNG onsite. On small sites, it is invariably impossible to achieve onsite. Sometimes the BNG costs can financially undermine your project. Knowing about this at an early stage may save you from wasting money on a financially unviable project.

Please note that this is indicative only, as we completed over 300 surveys in 2018, over 500 in 2021, and over 600 in 2025, so some areas would be fully covered with marker pins!
We have completed ecological and tree survey works on sites in Bristol, +300 units, North Somerset, +400, Devon, +470 units, Dorset, +80 units, Isle of Wight, + 120 units, Wiltshire, +35 units, Cornwall, +150 units, plus commercial and numerous smaller projects throughout the South, Southeast and Southwest. We have also completed works on a golf course near Wigan and a 14-hectare industrial site in Devon.
